Tractors are most often used on farms or construction sites, where they tend to encounter a lot of dirt and debris. While keeping your tractor clean can be a hassle, clean tractors are less vulnerable to corrosion and generally tend to perform better. This step by step guide from Holder & Sons Equipment will walk you through the process of washing your tractor.

1. Remove Debris

Washing your tractor will be easier if you start by getting rid of the big debris. Use a leaf blower to remove any leaves, grass, mud, or twigs that are clinging to your tractor. Pay particular attention to the undercarriage since that’s the part that’s normally the most difficult to keep clean.

2. Rinse & Wash Exterior

Cleaning a tractor by hand using a bucket of soapy water and a sponge can be arduous and time-consuming, but it’s the best way to get the vehicle thoroughly clean. Make sure that you rinse as you go so that you don’t get soap build-up. If you’re having trouble cleaning your tractor’s nooks and crannies, use a scrub brush. Tractor tires tend to attract muck, so give them scrub using a large auto brush if you have one.

Cleaning a tractor using a pressure washer will typically result in less thorough but faster cleaning. Clean your tractor top to bottom so that dirty water doesn’t seep down and contaminate areas that you’ve already cleaned. Also be mindful of delicate components like mirrors or sensors. Spraying these components directly is likely to result in damage. You should also take care to keep water out of your tractor’s engine.

3. Dry and Apply Wax

Once you’ve washed all the dirt off your tractor, allow it to air dry. An air compressor/leaf blower can be used if you need to dry things off more quickly. Once everything’s dry, apply a coating of wax and then buff it.

4. Wipe Down Interior

Your tractor’s exterior may be clean, but there’s no time to rest yet! Wipe down your tractor’s controls and seats using a damp rag. Use a shop vacuum to clean your tractor’s floorboards. Make sure the inside of your tractor is as clean as the outside!
